We have generated a Marburg virus scheme in response to recent reports of an outbreak in Equatorial Guinea. We attempted to make a pan-MARV scheme incorporating all the publicly available genomes but the ‘primer clouds’ required were very large. We decided to subsample the tree to only genomes from recent outbreaks in Angola, Ghana and Sierra Leone (grey box). This resulted in a 1 kb scheme of 138 primers which is a reasonable compromise. We have named the scheme MARV-2023 (GitHub - quick-lab/MARV-2023) and will continue to work on the Pan-MARV scheme in the background .
